Team Heart consists of a brother, a sister, a wheelchair and a single pair of running shoes. “I’m the legs,” Niki Ronnan said. “I’m the heart,” her brother, Mike Ewaldt, said. Team Heart is known in road race circles as a “duo” — an able-bodied person who pushes a disabled person in a customized racing chair.

Event drew more than 4,000 runners, raised money for charities

MANKATO – A massive crowd of tired, sweaty and ultimately proud runners filled the grounds of the Verizon Wireless Center on Sunday for the third annual Mankato Marathon. The event drew more than 4,500 runners this year, double the 2,200 runners that participated in the first year of the event.

Mankato Marathon gets better each year

MANKATO — The Mankato Marathon has come a long way in just three years. In the inaugural event in 2010, about 2,000 runners participated. This year more than 4,500 runners participated and the number of races has grown — with even toddlers getting in on the fun in the Diaper Dash. With more runners and events come more visitors and fans, bringing a boost to the local economy.
